Hi everyone, I recently bought some XMR and sent it to my MyMonero wallet. As it turns out, the project was shut down on January 6th, and I still can’t see my coins in the wallet. I decided to switch to Cake Wallet as suggested by the MyMonero team, but I’ve run into a problem…
After copying my Secret Mnemonic/seed phrase and setting the restore date to a few months before the wallet was originally created, the synchronization finished, but my balance still shows $0.00. Could someone please help me out? I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing wrong (I just did a simple copy/paste of the 25-word Monero seed from MyMonero). Thanks in advance!
P.S. Do I have to sync the wallet every single time? Is it possible to download all blocks starting from 2020 and only sync the new ones from there (similar to how MyMonero worked)? I noticed that even after syncing one wallet, when I switch to another, it seems to start scanning/downloading blocks all over again. Is this normal behavior?
You have to keep up with current block height, every single time you open Cake Wallet and unlock such XMR wallet, it’ll briefly sync up until latest block; however, it won’t have to start from 2020 onwards, it’ll pick it back up from the point where it was at when you last used your wallet and it was fully synchronized.
The only scenario where it’d keep restarting from 2020 block height onwards over and over again is if you don’t let it finish, as it may lose the current progress and be stuck in a syncing loop of sorts, where since you keep going from XMR to other wallets, its state resets and that’s why you keep seeing it start from 2020 onwards every single time.
You do can restore a wallet and set up a specific date, or block height upon restore. It is part of Cake Wallet’s restore wallet workflow.

I’d say you either selected a date that was after some of your incoming transactions, or something went wrong with the syncing process there. Perhaps consider running another restore, doing a year less or something like that, and letting it sync till you are all caught up with current block height.
